Location

Kerala State is the southernmost State of India, a narrow stretch of land lying along the South-west Coastline of Indian Subcontinent, between the Arabian Sea on the West and the Western Ghats on the East. The Arabian sea is comparatively calm and the Western Ghats Mountain Range is one of the most bio-diverse areas in the world. The land in between is the home of the Malayalam-speaking Keralites.

Known as 'God's Own Country', Kerala has the highest human development index, highest literacy rate and highest life-expectancy in India. Chenkal, where Sai Krishna Public School is situated, is a lush green village near the Southern tip of Kerala, in Neyyattinkara Taluk of Thiruvananthapuram District, the southernmost district of Kerala with its headquarters in Thiruvananthapuram Corporation, the capital city of Kerala State.

Chenkal Village

Chenkal is a typical Kerala village with greenery everywhere, with banana and tapioca cultivation intermingled with paddy fields and coconut orchards, with plenty of irrigation facilities and ponds keeping the place full of lush green vegetation throughout the year. Chenkal has an area of 1937 hectares. As per Census 2011, it has a population of 36891 with 18047 males and 18844 females in 9549 families. It is situated in Neyyattinkara Taluk of Thiruvananthapuram District of Kerala State.

It is situated 8km away from Neyyattinkara, the Sub-District Headquarters, and 25km from Thiruvananthapuram, the District Headquarters. Thiruvananthapuram is a large hub of buses and plenty of Government and private buses ply on the Thiruvananthapuram- Kanyakumari National Highway, on which Neyyattinkara town with a Railway Station is situated. Government buses, private buses, taxi cabs and auto-rickshaws take people from Neyyattinkara and Thiruvananthapuram to Chenkal. There is also an international airport at Thiruvananthapuram.

Climate

Kerala's climate is perennially salubrious. Kerala has a wet and maritime tropical climate with around 120 - 140 rainy days per year. Around 65% of the rainfall is from Southwest Monsoon from June to August and the rest from Northeast Monsoon from September to December. The mean annual temperature ranges from 25.0–27.5 °C in the coastal lowlands and 20.0–22.5 °C in the eastern highlands. The cool breezes from the sea on the West and the mountains on the East give respite from the heat even during the hotter summer months from March to May.

Getting There

Chenkal is at a distance of 20 km from Thiruvananthapuram, the State Capital, with an international airport and a major Railway Station and a major hub of transport buses, both Government and private.

Neyyattinkara town is just 5 km away from Chenkal on the Thiruvananthapuram- Kanyakumari National Highway, with a railway station, from where express trains take just 13 minutes to reach Thiruvananthapuram.

Chenkal can be reached by Government buses, private buses or any number of taxi cabs or auto-rickshaws from Neyyattinkara or Thiruvananthapuram.
